If you're one of the nearly 8 million people planning a trip to Honolulu this year, you may feel like there are so many things to see and do that you won't have enough time for everything. However, with a well-planned itinerary, you should be able to take in a lot of the island's highlights in a week.
Day 1

After you check in and take a quick nap at the awesome Honolulu hotel you found online, start your Honolulu visit off right and head to the Honolulu Zoo for some relaxing and fun family time. Another low-key first-day option is the Diamond Head Waikiki Segway Tour, which allows you to take in the island's beauty without exhausting yourself.

Days 2-3

Get in some fun sightseeing on days two and three. Pearl Harbor is a must-see for history buffs and everyone else, too. The Dole Pineapple Plantation is a great stop for learning how the plantations work. End this set of days with a hike to Diamond Head for a beautiful view.

Day 4

It's a good idea to take at least one day easy. Sleep in, wander around the hotel, and then head to the beach. There are several beaches on the island to choose from, but Waikiki beach is the most popular. This two-mile stretch of beach attracts about 4 million visitors each year. Take along a picnic for lunch and don't forget to pack your sunscreen. From swimming to sunbathing to surfing, there are limitless options for ocean fun.

Day 5

Head out for some more sightseeing. Iolani Palace is a great option for day five. It's the only true palace in the United States, making it a very unique sight. The palace is full of opulent finishes and ornate decor and it will delight old and young alike.

Day 6

Check out some of the best restaurants on the island. Lewer's Lounge is a great adult option for cocktails. If you're headed to Honolulu with your family, check out Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha. When you're looking for a culinary treat, check out La Mer – L'Aperitif for fancy dining. Hawaii has many unique food traditions, so be brave and venture out of your comfort zone to take in some of the local favorites.

Day 7

Every trip to Hawaii should include hula dancing. There are several free hula dancing events throughout the island and if you're interested, you can take classes to learn the basics of the art. Whether you just want to see a show or learn how to dance, don't leave Honolulu without taking in this distinctly Hawaiian tradition.

Planning the perfect trip takes a lot of time and effort, but your hard work will make your vacation that much more memorable. And at the end of the day, an itinerary is just a suggestion. Don't be afraid to head down that flower-lined pathway or winding side road when you're in Honolulu. You may end up in a cozy spot watching the most beautiful sunset of your life!
