Missing the Lake District this time around

I have to say that I’m quite sad that my time in England is so short this year. I have only a few days to pass from Glasgow (after visiting the Highlands of Scotland and the Isle of Skye) to London (where I also only have a few days to revisit from last year) before flying out to Iceland. Because last year, while touring around Ireland and the United Kingdom, I traveled fast as well, going straight from Edinburgh to Liverpool.

Although there are quite a few old industrial towns in England that are a bit dodgy, perhaps once you experience a few of them, they start to blend, like many other places around the world, I still feel that the countryside of England is often missed out on and undervalued. Perhaps it seems as though I’ve fallen into the same traps as well – even though I’m missing out on places like the gorgeous Lake District and the endearing Peak District, I suppose that it gives me reasons to come back again, eh?

Although there are quite a few old industrial towns in England that are interesting and steeped with history, I feel that the countryside of England is often missed out on and undervalued. Perhaps it seems as though I’ve fallen into the same traps as other travelers – following the city trail, rather than seeing the beauty there. Even though I’m missing out on places like the gorgeous Lake District and the endearing Peak District, I suppose that it gives me reasons to come back again, eh?

Besides the lakes of course, the aspect of the Lake District that draws me in the most is its hills and its moody, yet amazing light. That misty light that paints the colors of the land with atmospheric wonder simply intrigues me – especially when the photos showcase the sun’s beams of light – love that!

The Lake District has come up to me more and more, as I travel other parts of the world and focus on writing and running Eye & Pen, and it’s slowly creeping up higher on my bucket list as a MUST VISIT place – as soon as possible! Parts of the park area that I really want to see is the Bassenthwaite, Borrowdale, and the Windermere regions. I can’t say if it’s just the amazing photos that come from there, or if it’s something more drawing me in.

If you’ve visited the famous UK Lake District, feel free to comment below and tell me about your trip and what you loved about it most.
