Packing Tips for a Smoother Moving Process

Packing up before moving is not as easy as simply filling up boxes. However, it doesn't have to be hard either. Below are some packing tips to make the process go smoother and keep your belongings safe and protected during your move.
 Choosing your Packing Boxes
On average you will need around 4 smaller or medium sized boxes for each large box. The small boxes can be used to pack heavy items like dishes and books. Use the large boxes for items that are lighter such as blankets, bedding and linens. Using garbage bags can be tempting, however they lack ventilation which could lead to mildew and they tear to easy.

Packing the Right Amount
Boxes that are fully packed shouldn't weigh more than you are able to lift comfortably. You want your boxes to stay 'square' shaped and not bulging at the sides or top.  This will ensure they can be stacked and remain stable in your storage unit. You don't want to under pack either since content inside the boxes can shift during transportation and get crushed underneath heavier items and boxes. You can fill in empty spaces with foam peanuts.

Hanging Wardrobe Boxes
Avoid damage and wrinkling to dresses, pants, evening wear and suits by packing them inside hanging wardrobe boxes. Pack these items in these types of boxes directly from the closet. Other specially designed boxes can be obtained for hanging bedding, drapes, garage items or garden tools.

Quality Tape
It is important that you use quality packing tape to ensure you close your boxes tightly and securely. Packing tape will ensure that all your boxes keep their structure and all your items are protected. Firmly close the bottom and top flaps with wide strips of tape.

Labeling your Boxes
Label your boxes using a black marker. Later on if you need something, you won't have to open every box to find it. Be sure to mark boxes accordingly.  For example, items like picture frames, glassware and lamps should be marked clearly so they are handled and stacked with care and won't get damaged during the move.

Wrapping your Furniture
Use protective materials to pad and cover your furniture which will keep them in good condition while in storage or during the moving process.

Hiring a Reputable Moving Service
Last, but definitely not least, you need a reliable moving company to move your packed belongings. Ask around, check credentials, ask for reviews and so forth to be sure you have a moving service that is going to take care of your things during the move.

You can label your moving boxes with any color so that you can easily figure out which item has been placed in which particular box.

The most important thing to do while moving is to make a plan. Your list will be helpful as I am going to move out next month.
