Resolutions and goals for 2013

Another year has passed like a flash of light, or so it seems. I visited eight countries, had loads of new experiences and made some really fantastic friends along the way. On the other side of things, I was robbed a few times on the road and have lost some important people in my life this past year. But all in all, I will always remember 2012 as the year that I discovered my path in life and began following my passions.
One of my more favorite moments of 2012 was my experience of touring the Ring of Kerry in Ireland. It’s a glorious and raw place, full of beauty and character. I will never forget the wonderful and hospitable people that I was able to learn and grow from those few nights in that country hostel and pub, along the cliffside.

One of my most forgettable moments of 2012 was the situation that transpired while I was hiking in Puerto Rico’s El Yunque rainforest in September. The hike down to the La Mina waterfall was quite nice, full of jagged peaks, drop-offs and twisting paths. The weather was hot and the humidity was stifling at first, but cooled with the light, sporadic rainfall that trickled down through the trees. Returning to my rental car, I discovered that my passenger side window was smashed in and my bags were stolen. What started as a great vacation turned into a nightmare instantaneously and I was alone without any options, so I was forced to return to the states a few days later.
I’m most grateful in 2012 for every person who came in and out of my life, for better or for worse, because if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be who I am today. As I start this new year, I hope that my path will never stray for the worse and that I will continue to learn, grow, and be a better and wiser version of myself. While I don’t really regret any part of 2012, I do hope that 2013 will be much better overall. I hope that it will be tremendously improved, contrasting that of the past year.
As is usual with the coming of a new year, I have set a few resolutions and goals for myself: I hope to gain fiscal stability solely from my writing and work. I will finish my European trek narrative novella. I wish to travel to at least twice as many countries than I did in 2012. I will take control of my health and eating habits and sustain a steady workout. I will release a travel safety and traveling cheap eBook. I hope to be print published for my writing. I won’t fall into the same self-destructive tendencies as I have in the past.
Cheers everyone - I wish for you to have a fantastic year, full of blessings, wisdom, growth and betterment!

Your mention of the Ring of Kerry resonates with me. On two different occasions, about three months each, I lived in Ireland. The first time on mouth of the Dingle Peninsula and in Killarney the second time. The three peninsulas make the top of my list for the most heartbreakingly beautiful places in the entire world. Wild and lonely country that brings you close to the hand of God.

Yes, it is certainly the most beautiful place! There was so much peace in that area.

I like your positive attitude. Just one thing that I found a bit - estranging, if you will, and that is your wish to see 16 countries in 2013. I find 8 countries in one year a lot, and 16 - almost incomprehensible. I don't mean this disrespectfully, just curiously - why is quantity important? I find this a general tendency in travellers and I don't really understand about it.

It was meant merely to explain that I wish to travel more than I had this past year. If travel takes me through one single country, but the amount of time was longer - I would choose that in a heartbeat.

Cheers,
Brandon

I see - we agree on that then :) I still find it interesting that the wish for *many* countries seems so present in the travel blogosphere, or in the travel community in general. Personally I'd love it if I could see everything there is to see in this world, but that's probably not gonna happen, so I might as well see the things that I do see properly, with time and passion and a pace that actually allows me to experience the place and not just walk by it. Which countries are on your bucket list for this next year then?

A lot of travelers lose sight of the reason for travel, unfortunately.

Hm it's still a little up in the air, but I believe majority of Europe, starting in Spain.

I will travel 16 countries this year, by visiting Brandon's blog always!

Definitely like Brandon's goal of what he want to accomplish. We should dream higher! All will be well as we pursue on doing that, and if we didn't achieve it, then that's fine, we will not be disappointed.

I really like this blog!
