Technology and the amazing world we live in

As technology advances, our lifestyle changes and so industries evolve as well. It’s amazing to think how tremendously different life has changed and evolved each and every decade. Highly advanced computers that we could barely even dream of 40 years ago are now the size of credit cards. Heck, credit cards have completely changed the way people make payments, pay bills and manage their money while traveling abroad – and then there’s digital money, where you can manage your accounts online, pay bills through the digital inter-webs, and never actually leave your house to do your shopping. Music used to be played in a physical state, made of metals and plastics, and now you can have the equivalent of 1,000+ records available at anytime on an MP3 player the size of your big toe nail. Speaking of music, technology has revolutionized the music recording industry, as well as the photography and videography industries. Anyone can do it now, you know? There’s some good and some bad there though – the amount of artistic talent needed has dropped dramatically (but that’s another theme for future rant, I’m sure). Cars basically drive themselves now-a-days, and then there’s GPS’s, where you no longer need to use paper maps, and you can basically forget about asking for directions anymore.
For example, my job of free lance writing and running this website from anywhere in the world would not be possible even five to ten years ago. With the advancements of laptops and tablets, and the world connecting together with the spread of the internet, I am able to setup a business online and able to be anywhere in the world and still be able to login to my accounts and conduct business on a daily basis, with basically no hitches or major differences than if I were at home, working in my office. I can be sitting back on the beach of a tiny island in French Polynesia or in a snowed in cabin near Mount Everest, or along a safari in remote Africa, and with a bit of connection (depending if you rely on local connection or if you have a global connection), you can connect with your digital life and business. That’s absolutely amazing to me!

There are other ways to make money online as well, like selling products, even digital products… How amazing is it that anyone, not just a publisher or major author, is able to release a book or an educational guide to millions of people online? Let alone that, it’s also extremely simple to do now. If you are an artist, you can sell your paintings and sculptures and photographs online, without having to have a gallery anymore. If you used to be a business consultant, an accountant, or a graphic designer, your business can now be all online, with no brick and mortar store, no high overhead costs, and no heavy utility or employee expenses. There are other ways to make money online now too, even if running your own store or business isn’t for you – like gambling or playing online poker. And there’s the reselling of your old things, like antiques and crafts on Etsy or anything and everything on Craigslist or Ebay.

All I’m saying is that it’s amazing to me. This rambling and whimsical article was inspired by my random roaming thoughts. Since traveling the world, I’ve began to analyze things a lot differently, contemplating the meanings and the reasons of life, with a firm and renewed appreciation, by simply thinking what if certain aspects of my life were different or if they didn’t happen at all; or if this or that invention or technology hadn’t happened within my lifetime. Simply amazing, the world we live in now. Sure, there are plenty of bad things about the technology advancements of our world (but with the good comes the bad, it has always been that way, and always will), like that of social behavioral changes, weaponry advancements and greater threats, and pollution, among many, many more – but without these technological advancements, life wouldn’t be barely a smidgen close to how you know it is now.
