The (almost) free Queensland road trip

What if I were to tell you that you could get a free holiday driving around the beautiful west coast of Australia? Hard to believe isn’t it? Well it’s true. Motorhome relocation is beneficial to both the rental company and the person relocating. Many people don’t do round trips when they hire a campervan (or car), which leaves the car stranded in a location where the rental company don’t want it to be. That’s where you come in. The rental company will offer very cheap rates (as low as $5 a day), free fuel and enough time for you to get the campervan back where it came from. In other words, you are getting an almost free road-trip.

For example, there is the option to relocate to motorhome from Cairns, Queensland all the way down south to Melbourne, Victoria for just $1 a day! Not only that, there is $300 of fuel included – and you have 5 day to make your way down the beautiful east coast of Australia. The 38 hour (or 3500KM) drive will take you through some of Australia’s most beautiful coastal cities – with enough time to stop over at nearly all of them.

Townsville
Townsville is the first stop on our way down to Melbourne. A perfect stopover for those who love the great outdoors! Located on the coast of the Great Barrier Reef, Townsville offers several camp sites, Barra fishing, snorkelling around the beautiful reefs, bird watching in the surrounding wetlands, or even sky diving for those thrill seekers out there.

Rockhampton
The next stop on the road trip is Rockhampton. Rockhampton is located 600Km south of Brisbane, and lies on the Fitzroy River approximately 45Km from the river mouth. Due to its geographical location, Rockhampton experiences over 300 days of sunshine per year – which itself is a tourist attraction! With surrounding national parks, state forests, heritage buildings and amazing island retreats – Rockhampton has something for everyone. There are beautiful riverfront caravan parks with full amenities for you to park your campervan and go exploring. Don’t forget your camera!

Brisbane
Next we arrive to Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane. With a population of 2 million, Brisbane is the third largest city in Australia. Located on the Brisbane River, the picturesque city offers everything you would expect - restaurants, cafes, shopping complexes – you name it, you can find it. Although it’s on the way down to Melbourne, it isn’t really a place you would stop over in a campervan.

Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is just a stone’s throw away from Brisbane. Renowned for its amazing beaches, forests, waterways and hinterland ranges – the Gold Coast is a modern vibrant city which attracts millions of visitors each year. Also known as the Theme Park Capital of Australia, it is home to Dream World, Wet’n’Wild, Sea World and Warner Bros. Movie World – all conveniently located within a 5km radius of one another. If that’s not for you, head down to surfers paradise for sun, sand and amazing night life.
