The smaller cameras are typically point and shoot cameras, which are easy and quick to use, however are known to be pretty average in photo quality. But in all actuality, I am getting ready to switch over to one for some of my trips, because I need to save on space as well. I typically travel so light, that I have a school size backpack, not a hiker-in-the-woods-for-several-months backpack. And the truth is that the quality of the little point and shoot cameras has risen tremendously over the past few years. Some of these cameras produce such nice, sharp and dynamic images that most can’t tell the difference between an entry level DSLR and a point and shoot – plus, most later models allow you to control majority of the same settings that a traditional DSLR can.

You are not the first person to tell me that. :) I have heard that the quality of images is almost considered to be perfect. Do you actively use the Olympus OMD?
