The stress and challenges of todays’ modern world have led to the need for comfort and a more relaxing, serene environment; warmer colors/metals, natural textures/fabrics and fine tailored furniture are becoming the essentials for home/office interior design in 2016, reflecting not only gender equality but also supplemented with a stronger focus on original mixed-material creations (metals, wood, marble, glass decorations and furnishings) to move away from the current wide-spread cloning of traditional classics - a mass-production aspect of the furniture design industry that is ruining the essence of centuries-old original creations and lessening their artistic value, as in the case of mid-century décor and designs. Less use of cheap metals like copper, and rosy-hued metal decorative pieces which makes objects and furnishings look tarnished with time giving a dull feel to the ambient and décor are also out for 2016.
Eco-sustainable materials like glass, stone and especially wood – which has played a important role since time immemorial, used extensively by furniture designers since the Industrial Revolution and well through the 1940s up to modern times - are taking a prominent place in the interior design industry in order to return to traditional values and artisanal aspects with the aid of diverse chemical processes (as in the early decades of the 1940s-1960s, when popular Mexican designers renowned for their modern mid-century edge that was much en vogue were engaging in mixing diverse materials like metal, wood and stone for their creations).
Vitra, Minotti, Poltrona Frau, Zanotta, Miniforms, and Acerbis (founded in 1870) are among the top brands of Italian design collections which use different materials (glass, wood, metal, stone) and various traditional processes.
