Travel update XIII – Venice, Italy (Part II)

Plans come, plans go, and plans change, like anything else. Originally, the plan was for me to live in Venice, Italy for an extended period of time and work for a hostel booking website. After two months of living and working on the islands, my visitor visa time limit was up, and all of the paperwork and hoopla for a longterm work visa in the state of Veneto was unfinished, unguided and completely uncertain. The company hadn’t made long strides to further along the development, and instead, took one or two baby steps toward resolving the matter. So, all in all, it was time to move on again.
NOTE: Most of my travel updates are written as they happened, in chronological order, however since I’ve fallen behind on my trip updates, I am writing this entry as a basic sum-up of the events. But also, for the reason that I spent an extended amount of time in this place, and a day to day run down would be obscenely dull. ;-)

The two months flew by quickly in Venice, Italy, and it will be remembered forever. My time there was full of fond and joyous memories and experiences. I made good friends with majority of my office coworkers, having regular sporting games and various nights out – and I’ll definitely miss them. Danijel, Juliana, Eugenio, Marta, Riccardo, Andrea, and Iolanda became some of my best friends during this time period, and I feel that we had an only too limited amount of time together – but I don’t have regrets. I will likely hold romanticized memories of my time spent there, hanging out with them, and wandering around the City of Bridges.

Some of my more favorite highlights:

  • The nights spent at our favorite bar, the Osteria All'Alba near the Rialto Bridge
  • The lunches, sat huddled in our group of misfits, along the Great Canal
  • The weekends spent island hopping around Venice
  • The delicious pizza, of course
  • My going away bar-hopping party, as it was some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time
I’m sure there’s more things to say, however as time passes, the mind’s reflection dims.

I packed my bags and set off, back into the world, back into the strange wildness of the world...
