Traveling alone can be a fulfilling experience when done right. Solo trips make you feel like you’re on top of the world at one moment, but the next minute might reduce you to a tiny speck swallowed up in the crowd. The thrilling tug of war between risks and adventure is something you don’t often feel on a family trip, weekend getaway, or romantic vacation. The 2015 Visa Global Travel Intentions Study indicates that one in five travelers actually enjoy solo trips.
There are numerous benefits of traveling the world alone. First, you can choose your preferred destination without making a compromise. You have the freedom to set the budget, dates, and itinerary. When you arrive at your destination, you have the luxury of pursuing anything that your heart desires, whether it is a piece of art, a future spouse, or a side trail. If that sounds like what you want, here are the top 5 activities that will make your solo trip memorable:

1. Spend Time in Nature
As a solo traveler, you choose the level of adventure you want. If you want to climb a 10,000-feet mountain, you can do so. But if you want to dive from the top of a massive waterfall, that too can be exciting. Try a winding walk down a forest trail or take a breezy bike ride through a park for some invigorating experience. If you travel to Memphis, experience an exquisite sunset through a guided evening paddle activity on Hyde Lake and later on enjoy some cocktails and tasty treats along the AutoZone Front Porch.

2. Enjoy People Watching
Whenever you take a stop, choose a table that faces a sidewalk or an open window. Mealtime can be a great source of entertainment when you learn the art of people watching. It’s more of a visual study of what is different and what is universal. See how the passersby dress, greet each other, carry themselves, converse, or make jokes. You’ll be surprised how exciting it can be to hang on the wall of every human conversation. Sit on a park bench or a busy beach front and observe or even live tweet.

3. Engage the Locals
Conversing with the locals can be intimidating when traveling alone. However, it can be rewarding and effortless when you get down at it. Talk to people who have been to that destination and inquire about what the locals love, how they interact with visitors, and what activities they love. But f you don’t find leads, begin by taking guided tours.

The chances are that you’ll find lots of exciting activities that you usually engage in. If you do yoga, find a local yoga class and join. A far-flung substitute to your regular activities can be quite rewarding. You’ll be surprised by how fast you make new friends and feel like you found a new home away from home.

4. Tag Along with a Tour Group
There are numerous tours focused on nature, scuba diving, hiking, art and architecture, breweries and vineyards, horseback riding, and so much more. Tag along with a tour group that offers your preferred package and enjoy a guided experience.

5. Attend a Performance
When attending shows alongside friends or family, you may not enjoy the full thrill of it for fear of judgment. When traveling alone, catch a show, traditional dance performance, a music festival, and more. Live performances have a way of thrilling you with fun even if you don’t understand the language. Words and lyrics no longer become a barrier to emotions.

Traveling the world is one of the most exciting life experiences you can ever have, but traveling solo is even more thrilling. So, what are you waiting for? Work on a budget, set up your itinerary, and begin to explore the world alone. With these tips, you won’t regret it.

I would add that wathcing street artists and street musicians do their thing is both entertaining and free. Plus, it opens up your horizons.
