It's Saturday afternoon; there's excitement and a sense of anticipation in the air as you walk down the dusty city street. The closer you get to the venue, the more the excited chatter of the growing number of people builds. There's talk of an upset and a battle ahead. Your laughter is accompanied by the shouting of vendors on the streets, selling food and drink. Then you turn a corner, and there it stands. The stadium rising before you, towards the heavens. A colossus of a building, imposing in its presence. You join the queue; the show is about to begin! All thoughts of the day left behind as you head inside to watch the unfolding entertainment, the drama, the sport!
You'd be forgiven for thinking you are heading towards a sporting occasion. Your favourite football team, perhaps? Well, yes, but the year is actually…. BC and the giant structure that stands before you aren't a modern stadium, with plush seating and excellent food! You're in Rome, at the mighty Colosseum, ready to watch the gladiators do battle. Entertainment was different back then!

The Colosseum - a must-visit
Any visit to Italy's capital, Rome, means making sure to include a visit to this marvel of ancient times. For the Colosseum is just that, a phenomenon. You only have to walk from the Roman Forum nearby, up the pathway, and you can't but sense the grandeur of the ruins and their imposing nature when in its prime.

Rome is a city with so many stunning, unique, and historical attractions of interest you could be forgiven for missing out on what is essentially an empty shell now. But visit you must, and you'll be glad you did so.

What top tips should you take into your visit? How best to experience this unique, historical place? We give you the advice and the isango! Colosseum Tickets you should have to get the most out of your visit.

1. Skip the Line If you turn up unannounced, then don't be surprised to see a queue snaking its way around the corner and heading off into the distance. Hordes of families and groups waiting in line to get their hands on a ticket. Excellent for the people who run the attraction. A put-off for those who want to get inside and see it!

One way of beating the queues is to first purchase a ticket in advance, which saves time and means you can pick the time and day you want to visit. Add in a skip-the-line option, and well, you'll be waving goodbye to those snaking lines. Saving you queuing time and giving you more precious moments to look around and take it all in.

2. Going 3D
It's all well and good to look around the attraction, stand where the arena once stood and soak it all in. How about taking your touring into the 21st Century? Doing a virtual tour will give you a whole new perspective of the attraction. Don the googles and be transported back to ancient Rome and that gladiatorial moment. History comes to life! Perhaps it doesn't get any better than that?

3. Combination tours
Let's be honest, most places you visit in Rome will be crowded with tourists. Rome is that kind of place, with so many top attractions to explore. One way to help yourself and save some pennies is to buy a combination ticket. Go and see the mighty structure of the Colosseum, and then know you have a ticket that'll also let you into the Vatican or St Peter's Basilica or both.

There are other options, including a tour that adds in the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Which happen to be close by. Having a combo ticket is peace of mind and means you'll have something else to look forward to visiting.

4. Going at night
Another unique tour is visiting the Colosseum during the evening, with no crowds and exclusive access to areas such as the Underground and the arena floor. It's a guided tour, so you'll also get the historical details to really give you insights into this magnificent structure.

5. Other top tips
You've picked your ticket type, and you're ready to go! To have a fuller, more rounded experience, why not do a little research before you visit? It might make your time there more interesting knowing bits about it. Also, make sure to wear sensible shoes; you walk over slippery and uneven surfaces, so it's worth taking care of, especially if it's rained!

Travel light. There really is no need to take the house along with you! Well, you won't be admitted for one thing! And if you're spending your time looking around, then you wouldn't want to be carrying a heavyweight anyway.

The Colosseum is one of Rome's centrepieces. A must-visit place that will delight and enthral. Follow these tips, pre-book your tickets, and you can enjoy this attraction without the hassles and the long queues. You want to enjoy your experience after all.

The closer you approach to the place, the louder the enthusiastic conversation of the swelling crowd. There are rumors of an upset and a war ahead. Your laughing is matched by the yelling of vendors selling food and drink on the streets. Then you round a corner, and there it is. The stadium is soaring to the sky in front of you.
