A Look At Home Security While Abroad: featuring August Home

Traveling the world is among the finest of investments one can make into the quality of their lives. Because not only does traveling to new regions of the world open your mind, but it allows you to see how others live, what they think, how they think, what they believe in, and where they’ve been and are going. But beyond the external experience, travel can take you places within yourself you never knew existed, including but not limited to simply how you think.
I’ve had the pleasure of exploring over 25 countries and have come back a different person than who I was when I started. I’ve experienced beautiful things, met wonderful people, and I’ve also dealt with a good amount of adversity. I’ve been robbed while traveling abroad in Scotland, Puerto Rico and in the United States. I’ve found myself in situations that had my hair standing on end, and had my heart racing, yet those weren’t the worst things to come my way. The worst happened at home when I was gone.

One time, I had my car broken into where I had left it on the street, and another where a roommate reported a man had entered through the kitchen window and upon opening his bedroom door was promptly ran out of the house. In our modern world, these types of situations happen all of the time, and while they may not be entirely avoidable, you can indeed make your best effort to avoid the worst that could happen.

When you’re traveling abroad, especially out of the country, your home and belongings tend to be left to the whims of the world, or fate if you’d like… But with modern technology, new solutions are coming onto the market almost everyday. So the question you must ask yourself is, why let fate decide when I can buy myself some peace of mind?

Recently, I had the opportunity to test out the August Home Doorbell Cam Pro, which is a digital doorbell with HD video capabilities. The August Doorbell Cam Pro lets you answer your door anywhere in the world. HindSight monitors your doorway and captures moments of motion and alerts your phone so that you can then record the video and replay the last 24 hours. On your mobile device, you can watch live who is at your front door, no matter what country you’re in.

If you spring for their additional home security products, like the August Smart Lock, you can let your visits into your home, right from your phone app. So if you get a motion alert and see that someone nefarious is at your door, even while you’re in Cambodia, then you can send police to check out the situation at home, while you enjoy the temples. Two- way audio and HD video make the Doorbell Cam Pro a pretty amazing home security tool that’s perfect for travelers. I wish I had one when I had spent nine months roaming around Europe.
