Moving preparations are in full swing as spring cleaning has began early thanks to how bad the winter storms are hitting the northeast US today. As I sift through the ungodly amount of things I’ve acquired over the years, stored away and forgot about, my mind is filled with deeper thoughts on society, evolution, and our survival…

As a budding herbalist, over the past few years I’ve been working with herbal medicines, remedies, and other natural approaches to healing, and while I’ve learned a great deal about the body and how it can be treated in this way, I’ve also come to realize that our connection with Nature is the underlying truth that permeates everything in our world. And when that understanding is felt in the mind, body and soul, you come to think about reality and the nature of humanity and all living things as a mosaic, where one thing relies on another thing, and so on the circle goes.
Winter is here in all of its freezing pearlescent glory, and with it comes the opportunity to experience the natural sound of Nature, and all of its beauty. Sure, the leaves have changed to yellow, red and brown, crinkled up, dried up and fallen off the trees, and a blanket of white has descended upon the forests, but there is still an intense feeling of belonging that I’d trade for nothing else. With the blankets of snow comes a sense of purity that in today’s modern world is becoming harder and harder to find. And in the winter world of the forest where no other human soul is at that time brings along the silent sound of Nature that few ever hear in their entire lives.
![]() For the better part of a decade, vaping or using a vaporizer has become a popular fad that has moved from being new and trendy to finding a place as a mainstay in the lives of millions. There are several different types, which means there’s some finer details to understand first before diving into the vaping world. There are indeed a few different kinds, like vaping flavored liquid that has no nicotine and is therefore supposed to be non-addictive, and then there’s the tobacco smoker’s replacement option where flavored e-liquid has various levels of nicotine included, as well as the option where e-liquid is infused with CBD oil, which is the non-psychoactive compound found in hemp, which has shown to have sedative and anti-inflammatory properties among a myriad of other health benefits. Travel has changed my life in so many ways, I could never recount each way nor am I capable of fathoming them all, but it is reading that has changed me the most. In travel, you’re subject to the external world you’re venturing through, however, you’re even more so effected by your own self. Because in traveling the world like a backpacker, I’ve learned what it is to be alone, all by my lonesome, in a place I’ve never been and know no one, nor speak the language, for that is how you grow and open your mind, and lay waste to the cultural judgements and preconceived notions of the world, others, and how it all works and got the way it is today.
![]() With every shift in perception comes a new movement and that is no truer than it is today when concerning the minimalist movement. Many of us have noticed the impact our ever-growing population has had on the earth and that realization has manifest itself in a change in our perception of what’s important and now a growing movement toward minimalism is among us. Others have simply grown tired of the crutch of importance we hold for our things and so many folks are simplifying their lives, their needs and expectations. This shift can only have a positive effect on the environment, and for that I support it. I, myself, am also enthralled by this new imagining of lifestyle, as I have plans with my wife to build an A-frame tiny home, with many minimalist approaches taken to limit the space needed to live as basically as we need. We are designing in things like a dining table that folds down from the wall and can be stored upward when not in use, and can be easily transformed into a simple workspace or place to eat. We are also thinking creatively about storage, using the staircase to the bedroom loft as drawers, the angled sides of the A-frame shape as closets, and we’re also cutting down on how much stuff we actually wish to store in our home. This is not the easiest of practices at first, but it is freeing to say the least. |
