A vibrant array of colors burst out from the horizon and beyond the trees; from orange to yellow to pink, purple and blue, the morning rose and with it came the soft chirping of cardinals and blackbirds ushering in a new day. With the sun on my face and hair warm in the light, I awoke with a deep breath before sitting up and greeting the new day with a wide smile.
Finding the perfect pair of sunglasses can be quite the chore, especially, if you’re like me, and are notorious for breaking them, leaving them in obscure places, or mysteriously losing them. For years, I’ve sworn off nice pairs of sunglasses, opting for the $5 to $10 kiosks at the malls. Admittedly, I have not looked near as good as I have until just recently, as the fine folks over at ShadeTree were kind enough to send me two pairs of their fine wooden sunglasses to try on, and review for you.
Fans from all around the country try to attend Grand National. Those who can’t sit at home and watch it on TV. One of the great things about this race is just how unpredictable it is. The favourites don’t always win giving people a chance to have bets on some of the outsiders.
For me, personally, a solid briefcase is imperative for successful business trips. It isn’t about the brand, or how much money it cost, nor if a bag is made of some precious leather. The right bag can help comfort and ease in travel, as well as success in business. At the inception of Eye & Pen, I was a backpacker. And as a backpacker, I was always most concerned with the perfect rucksack, because as a backpacker, I lived out of my pack. So it mattered greatly how much space, what features and the weight of my pack. But as I grow as a writer, into an author, I have become accustomed with the business travel world.
I’m a headphone snob; I have to be honest. I love a good pair of headphones… There’s something about being immersed in a world of music, where all else in the outside world no longer matters. Nothing gets better than turning off the lights and turning up the tunes, and fading off into the mind. I rarely write without headphones, and even when I’m working on my novel, I have chill step and atmospheric beats pumping through my headphones. It makes all the issues that everyday modern life brings about go away, providing my mind some much needed respite by allowing me the chance to balance myself.
As the black sky paled to light, a brilliant sea of stars faded. And soon the millions of tiny lights like fireflies became invisible to me. I looked down from the heavens, hoping the beauty of each star, striving to shine the brightest of all, would be burned forever inside the lids my eyes. Then, the sun appeared in a line of pale red against the deep purple sky. The vibrant light silhouetted the mountain peak as I finished packing my tent. Minutes later, I finished packing then slung my manliest of satchels over my head and let it rest at my side. And then I was off.
