Personally, I grew up without the influence of a father in my life, and while that had it’s difficulties and shortcomings as I’ve grown older, I believe I’m better off in a lot of ways. I’ve learned to be self-sufficient, headstrong and understanding of others, though I am still catching up on trade skills that my mom couldn’t teach me. But something that’s always stuck with me is the fascination of what a ‘real man’ is, and seeing as how that meaning is ever-changing and evolving, what one generation thinks is manly, the next is likely to see things differently.
For decades, anything to do with cannabis, or marijuana, had been outlawed, looked down on, and thought to be criminal by many, even the very mention of the plant was shunned. Thankfully, since the invention of the internet, saner heads have prevailed, clearing up the truth and laying waste to the propaganda and smear campaigns that have misinformed millions across the globe. And perhaps no country has been affected more so than the minds of the USA. Where it was once thought that cannabis was a harmful drug, reported to cause brain damage, bad decisions and other obscure defects, it’s now becoming common knowledge that the plant is indeed useful for a myriad of medicinal applications.*
![]() Growing a full beautiful beard is among a fair many men’s goals in life, but the truth is that it’s not easy. And it can be even more difficult for those of us who have uneven growth patterns. When you’re young, beard growth can be disappointing as best for many, but with enough time and patience, and with the right approach, succeeding at growing a truly righteous beard can be attainable. With my wedding incoming in less than two months, I’ve been hard at work trying to get ahead of the planning, and delegating the never-ending list of to do’s… One thing I can finally tick off is getting my beard in order, and I’ll tell you how I did it. I’ve always had visions of me living in a cabin deep in the woods, where I would live out my days writing and living among the natural world. I, of course, had a wild, burly beard and probably a bit of a strange wild look in my eye, but hey, as far as I’m concerned a wild look in nature is far better than a broken one in the modern world. I’ve tried and tried at growing a full beard, one that I could be proud of, but the truth is that I’ve been among the many of men who struggled to get it all put together. For the longest time, in my early twenties, I would have a scattered patchy bit of growth that resembled something like a vagrant pirate, but now, being in my early thirties, I’ve had enough time to invest into inspiring enough beard growth to make something of it. Though, I do still have a patch on my cheek that is noticeably thinner, and beyond overall heath, I need that patch to fill in. Curing the Mind from Stress & the Mood from the Dark Cloud of Morning: featuring Orange Mud3/23/2018 Sweeping hills of green joined the moody gray and subtle blue of the sky mirrored in the still water of the pond, creating an inspiring, eye-catching scene before me. Though, an hour or so before I had awoken beneath a grey cloud that tainted my mood and stalled my ability to write and work, and to think clearly…
The human world is a fickle place. So, as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that many things that were taught or simply accepted as general knowledge are in fact incorrect, and in some cases, are extremely (and grossly) wrong. I don’t know if that’s just life in the United States or not, but the older I become, the more my mind awakens with the ability to think and reason, and to see the truth of reality. And as far as reality goes, what I know now is basically nothing like what I grew up thinking. Not only can experience, maturity and growth be attributed to this increase, but something else has helped along my evolving mind and awareness.
