It’s My Favorite Time of the Year: Falling Leaves & Cold Travel, featuring Garmont

After months of frying under the summer sun, I am pleased to report that autumn and winter travel are in full swing. I know, most people like to hibernate through the colder months, but me, I enjoy the peace and solitude of exploring natural places. Personally, there’s nothing better than the forest, and one of my favorite times to wander and frolic in the wild wood is just as the leaves change color and begin to fall. When you’re surrounded by a blanket of yellow, red, orange and brown, with what almost appears like falling embers all around, there’s nothing that can spoil such an awe-inspiring experience. For as far as you can see, the forest is aflame with beauty, mystique, and I am filled with a feeling of peace and belonging like no other.

In today’s world, you can order just about anything and it’ll come straight to your door, no matter if it’s from across the state, country, or even across the world. This may be a perk that many of us take for granted, but it wasn’t long ago that having fresh meat sent through the mail would have been considered insanity. But not now, not today, because some companies have fine-tuned the experience for its customers and can now send packages with dry ice through the mail, across the country, and it still be cold and safe to consume. It’s pretty amazing.

I recently partnered with ButcherBox to test and review one of their monthly boxes, and so here’s my honest thoughts about their service. I signed up for their Beef and Pork box, which included bacon, 85/15 grass-fed ground beef, NY strip, top sirloin steaks, pork chops and baby back ribs. At first, I was a bit skeptical about shipping all of that through the mail. In fact, my first box came and all of the dry ice had melted and the meat was no longer cold to the touch. I was instructed to throw out the box and was assured that this does indeed happen, but typically less than 1% of the time. Customer service was on top of it immediately, sending out a new box right away which arrived a few days later. It was sad to waste what looked like some damn good eats, but the second box was a success.

Every frequent traveler knows how boring transport days can be. You take a car, taxi or bus to the airport, you take a shuttle to the correct concourse, you go through security, then you wait through the motions until your seating assignment is called. Then, you’re forced to wait for what seems like forever while the plane readies for take off, until finally you’re up in the air and you realize you still have hours upon hours until you arrive at your destination, only to reserve the trip by way of shuttle, bus, taxi, car. All this time, you’re bored out of your mind, wishing, waiting, hoping for the monotony to end. That’s why you come prepared with as many entertainment options as possible. This is something I’ve had to learn over my years of traveling the world…
