Being the Transformation: featuring Master & Dynamic

Neglected pieces of land are not lost causes. I look at land that’s been deforested and/or trashed by people as previously unloved, but with the potential to be loved again. It’s amazing what transformation a piece of land can have with a little conscious effort. What was unlivable and strewn with garbage, some rotting and some incapable of decomposing, can indeed be transformed back to a health habitat.
It’s so sad to see a piece of land that’s been abused, because not only is the old growth of eons laid to waste, but the natural habitat that diverse species of animals depend on has been devastated as well. Biodiversity in forests is one of the most important things about our world that we depend on and is what helped evolve us to what we are today. But now, with the modern world impinging on the natural spaces worldwide, countless species are disappearing forever.

I recently relocated to the country in Ohio and a few months ago I had the chance to move onto a piece of family land that had previously been misused and dumped on by previous owners. There was a rubbish pile taller than me, at least 30 feet by 20 feet, and all animals and birds had moved far from the mess. There was shattered glass, old kids toys, an entire rotting wardrobe, building materials, piles of beer cans, a singed mattress, and on and on it went. Any place that’s gone through something like that has a feel about it, a negative vibe that makes you feel uneasy as if something in your belly isn’t sitting well. It can affect your mood and your ability to see positives, and so we worked, day after day, mood low, energy feeling even lower, but we knew there was an end in sight.

So for weeks, my wife Leah and I cleaned it up, one bag at a time and one burn pile at a time. It was dull, nasty work, but it went quickly when I’d pop on my over-ear headphones and slide some gloves on, and I’d just vibe to music while I worked. As we saw the pile shrink little by little, we spent more time working at it, feeling more hope and energy surging within us. We’d dance and laugh and work until we had had enough.

After several months, the grass is growing back, and the birds have returned, and the woodland creatures are playing and making new homes. The transformation is so obscene that I can barely believe my eyes. What’s more is that a positive, inviting feeling has returned to the place. It’s a wonder what a little caring can do to transforming a piece of land. Looking around in the country, it’s easy to see and hear the wildlife that comes to a place, as well as the types of plants when a land is cared for a loved and lived on with care, versus a piece of land that’s been neglected or lived on negatively. There is a power in the energy at which you live your life, so much so that even the animals and plants respond in kind.

I recently had the opportunity to team up with Master & Dynamic, an amazing personal audio company who specializes in high quality headphones, earbuds and home speaker systems. They were kind enough to send one of their premier wireless over-ear headphones in the model MW60. The MW60’s went with me everyday to the land we helped to transform, and they made all the difference in helping me stay positive and hard working, because without the music and the ease at which to listen, I may never have finished such a disparaging project.

What made it easy for me was that the headphones are wireless, which played music via bluetooth from my phone, and so no wires got in the way every two seconds that I had to bend over and pick up a piece of trash. The ergonomic fit of the MW60’s is one of the features I’m keen on, but even more so is the absolute awesome audio quality provided by these. Typically, from my experience, most bluetooth headphones, be it earbuds or heavy duty headphones, lose a lot of sound quality by removing the wire, but not Master & Dynamic’s MW60 headphones.

The MW60’s are so comfortable because they fit nicely over the ear instead of on them, which means they don’t smash in your ear, rendering them useless after 20 minutes like many comparable brands. They’re outfitted with a dual microphone, sound controls on the earpiece, and the pads are cushioned and covered in lambskin which helped in easy clean up after a sweaty day of hard cleanup. All in all, I was amazed by this experience, because not only was my heart fulfilled by the honest hard work and seeing the positive transformation before my very eyes, but I was also supported by mobile music thanks to M&D. As you can tell, I’m a big fan!
