Goal: Visit the last remaining wonders of the ancient world
With the other six of the seven wonders of the ancient world destroyed, or just simple myth passed down through the ages, one definitely existed and still stands to this day. The Great Pyramid of Giza is still standing on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. It’s the oldest of the seven wonders, with construction dated between 2560-2540 BC. The other wonders that were survived by the Great Pyramid were the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. The other six wonders are much more interesting to me than some grimy old pyramids in the desert. Don’t take that the wrong way - I would absolutely love to see the pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza before I die. But I believe that witnessing the hanging gardens, the Colossus statue, and the lighthouse would be a superiorly epic experience.
