A new treatment option is available for a myriad of ailments that was once thought to be a harmful and addictive drug, but with the advent of the internet the truth has come out, and it’s becoming more well-known that aspects of cannabis or marijuana are indeed healing* and therapeutic. With cannabis, the thing to understand is that there’s the male and female plants, each with their own compounds and effects. The female plant is the most demonized, because it’s flowers contain THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid that ‘gets you high,’ but in the stalks and leaves of both the male plant, also known as hemp, and the leaves, there is a compound named CBD, and that’s the chemical that has people in the medical industry excited.

CBD is the non-psychotropic cannabinoid found in hemp, the male non-flowering part of the plant, which has been found to have inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, as well as sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not ‘get you high,’ as they say, but it will relax you, soothe pain, help regulate sleep patterns, control certain cancers, stimulates bone growth, and stops the growth of bacteria, as well as it suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions, slows inflammation, reduces blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of artery obstructions, decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls, helps control epileptic seizures, reduces risk of nerve damage, and eases nausea.

I recently teamed up with Palmetto Harmony to test and feature their CBD products, and they sent me their Full Spectrum Hemp Oil, Capsules, and Transdermal Patches, as well as three of their Topical Creams: Cannacense, Holy Cannacense, and Psorian Cream. With CBD, you can ingest it, smoke it, vape it, or apply topically, and while each approach yields different results, typically best for certain ailments, each can be very effective for a range of issues. For me, I use CBD to ease my insomnia and to relax me from stressful days full of anxiety.

When you’re buying CBD, be sure the product is indeed ‘full spectrum,’ because without the full spectrum of cannabinoids, you’re shorting yourself on the full benefits that cannabis has to offer. Palmetto Harmony doesn’t mess around with their products, and do offer full spectrum across the board, which is very important. Their Full Spectrum Hemp Oil can be ingested by applying drops to the tongue, or they can be applied to food recipes, or even homemade topical salves. Their hemp oil is organic and is a whole plant extract which means it contains a broad terpene profile, which includes CBD among other naturally occurring compounds found within the Cannabis Sativa plant. Some CBDs on the market flavor their oils, which I can see why, because the earthy taste of natural cannabis oil can be a love-hate for some, but for me, I like to know that I’m tasting the oil, plain and simple, without additives.

Their oil is perfect for customizing the dosage to fit whatever you’re feeling each day. Not long after taking a dose of 25mg, I feel a sense of calm come over me, and I’m able to better go about my day without the anxiety and pains that typically plague me, and while that’s not a medical statement, it’s simply my personal experience. The capsules work the same way, though each capsule is 10mg, so I tend to go between 2 and 3, depending on how I’m feeling each day. A new way to experience CBD is with transdermal patches, which offer a time release approach that lasts around 12 hours, while the onset is around 1.5 hours. You simply slap it on and move on with your day, with little thought of dosages throughout the day, which I found to be very cool.

The topical creams by Palmetto Harmony is what I felt set them apart from most other CBD products on the market, because they’re strong and effective, and made with lots of good, natural things like organic East African Shea Butter and natural Beeswax. The Cannacense topical marries High CBD Hemp Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Frankincense and Lemon, and is effective for achy muscles, painful joints and other skin issues. The Holy Cannacense brings together High CBD Hemp Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Holy Basil, Frankincense and Sweet Orange, for a particularly powerful for pain in muscles, joints and with arthritis. The Psorian Cream is a mix of High CBD Hemp Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Gotu Kola, Comfrey Root, Calendula, Marshmallow Root, and Lavender, and is a perfect treatment for dry skin, flaky patches, psoriasis, and scabs.

All in all, I came away very impressed with the quality of Palmetto Harmony’s CBD products, and have recommended them to my family and friends. My wife Leah has found that the Psorian cream is very effective on dry patches of skin that she experiences when the seasons change, and I found that the CBD oil, capsules and patches work well at easing tension, anxiety and pain.
