Among the latest health crazes is a true medicinal plant that has been vilified for decades as being evil, and causing people to lose their minds and to make bad decisions, yet now with the evolution of thought inspired by the advent of the internet, the truth has come out and a new way of healing is available for those who wish to avoid the negatives of prescription drugs. That medicinal plant is better known as marijuana, or the latin name for the entire plant (male and female) is cannabis, which has been shown to heal* and have positive effects for a myriad of ailments and issues that we go through in this crazy modern world.

Cannabis produces a range of unique cannabinoids which are compounds that bind with our endocannabinoid system in a synergetic way as to help rather than harm. These cannabinoids produce certain effects, like the psychotropic ‘high’ that THC has on the mind and body, which is produced by the female flowers, or the newly available and legal (in all 50 states) cannabinoid known as CBD, which comes from both the male and female plant. There are others like CBG, CBN, and CBC, which are lesser known and tend to show up in much lesser amounts than THC or CBD.

CBD is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in hemp, which has been found to have inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, as well as sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not ‘get you high,’ as they say, but it will relax you, soothe pain, help regulate sleep patterns, control certain cancers, stimulates bone growth, and stops the growth of bacteria, as well as it suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions, slows inflammation, reduces blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of artery obstructions, decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls, helps control epileptic seizures, reduces risk of nerve damage, and eases nausea.

I recently had the pleasure to test Love Life CBD’s Body Lotion and Calm Tincture, which are infused with CBD for added benefit. Love Life also offers a Relief and Sleep tincture with hemp extract in each, as well as other lotions, body salts, face serum and even treatments for pets. Their Calm treatment is a full spectrum tincture with cannabinoid hemp extract and plant terpenes that soothe and ease anxiety, or at least that’s what I found. I liked using the Calm tincture before bed especially, and for days when my stress level and anxiety are at a high level. The Calm tincture includes 250mg of CBD, coconut MCT oil, stevia, mint oil, dominant in beta caryophyilene and linalool terpenes. The taste is subtly sweet and is much improved compared to most other CBD tinctures, because others tend to stick with the original taste of the cannabis plant, which can be strong and a bit too earthy.

Love Life’s Body Lotion is a ylang ylang and lavender blend with 100mg of full spectrum cannabinoid hemp extract, with the following ingredients mixed in (and most are organic): aloe leaf juice, coconut oil, glycerin, emulsifying wax, stearic acid, grapeseed oil, phenoxyethanol, xanthin gum, l-glutamic acid, ylang ylang and lavender essential oils. The scent is nice, subtle, yet intoxicating, with a very nice absorption rate, which I found to be most helpful in the middle of the night and in the morning’s when my back and neck pain likes to flare up. It eases the muscles, while soothing pain and moisturizing the skin nicely. Overall, I found both products to be very well made, although a bit on the lighter side of how much CBD content is inside. With 100mg and 250mg, they are fine products for beginners, though as I have had plenty of experience with CBD, I tend to use higher dosages.
