I’ve had the pleasure to check out a few of their shows, and I’ve never been to a bad one, or even an ‘okay’ one, as they’ve always been awesome. I’ve seen a couple sketch comedy shows and highly suggest their yearly Holiday Hoopla feature, and I’ve checked out a couple of their musical tribute shoes, like their current feature, “Which One’s Pink?” Which One’s Pink is their Pink Floyd tribute show. Last week, I had the chance to check it out and I was blown away.
The first half of the show was focused more on the original singer of the band Syd Barrett, with tunes played live from several of the band’s albums, early and some titles from after Syd left the band, like “Shine on You Crazy Diamond.” The first half of the show was very well done, entertaining, and performed well, especially considering how difficult it can be to do justice to one of the most popular bands in world history. The most impressive and powerful performance was when one of the actors dressed up like a general and literally stole the show. Epic!
The second half was a mashup of the album, “Dark Side of the Moon,” with alive performance of portions of the Wizard of Oz. And yes, it was as good as you can imagine, and more. The band rocked out and definitely did not embarrass themselves when performing the iconic Dark Side album, and the performers created a magical and mystical, and haunting performance of Wizard of Oz that captivated me so much so that I couldn’t look away. I had chills, I teared up, and I felt like I was in my happy place, and I never wanted to leave. Thank you Shadowbox!
