In times of mental tension, anxiety and foggy processing, I pop on headphones and get lost in the music, often meditating for awhile prior to working on any sort of writing project. There’s just a sort of balancing that needs to happen, almost daily, to get me at my best so my work doesn’t suffer for the effects of the modern hustle and bustle. It’s true that the mind needs time to simply wander. All my best ideas came from still moments of the sauntering mind.
In the 99 Classics, Meze Audio has delivered an iconic build with a classy, sleek look, comfortable pads, and a strong structure, paired with excellent sound. Meze boasts that the 99 Classics are meant to become an heirloom, rather than just another pair of headphones. I can see where they’re coming from, because they really are very fine, strong, and pleasing. The only thing I would worry about over the years is failing electronics, but who knows. What I really like about the 99 Classics’ overall aesthetic is the wood grain, which is real and unique to every pair of headphones.
The natural approach with the walnut ear-cups works very well in keeping a deeper sound when it’s needed. I like to hear the full range in equal quality, and they did a good job meeting that standard. Beyond the sound, I love Meze Audio’s approach to how they handle their business. I quote from their website, “It is worth mentioning that all the wood that we use in our headphones is strictly harvested from sources with certificate of origin. That is, mature trees that have reached the end of their life cycle. This way, we are helping the environment and we're giving the old trees a chance to shine one more time in the shape of Meze headphones.”
