Exploring the Therapeutic Effects of CBD: featuring Steve’s Goods

In a time where many prescription drugs have been shown to cause as many side effects as they claim to cure, if not more, some natural medicines have shown promise in the replacement of harmful and addictive pharmaceuticals. One of the most exciting and versatile of these medicines is that of CBD, a once outlawed substance that is now proving to be changing lives*. CBD is one of many cannabinoids or compounds found in cannabis (also known as marijuana), each with their own healing, soothing or therapeutic effect. You may be thinking: "yikes, this article is about illegal drugs…" And I’d have to say that you’re wrong. But let me explain…

For decades, the U.S. government had propagandized cannabis among the masses, claiming that it will make you crazy, evil, and lustful, among many other ridiculous claims. But now with the advent of the internet, times are changing, and because of access to new information, old minds are changing and young minds are finding truth before the lies, and so with new minds comes a new vision and a new understanding. Not only was the government wrong about cannabis, they ruined millions of lives in the process. But now that times are changing, it’s important to understand the proper use of cannabis, because like most psychoactive substances, abuse is possible. Although, cannabis as been shown to be very kind to the human body and mind, even when abused in excess.

It’s important to understand the differences in each of the cannabinoids, though we know little about many of the other compounds found only in marijuana, the truth about CBD has been proven; so much so that it is now legal in all 50 states. There is THC, which is the psychotropic chemical found in the female flowering portions of the cannabis plant, which does indeed ‘get you high.’ THC is only legal in the states that have legalized cannabis or medical marijuana. But CBD is now available across the board, which is huge news for many suffering from a myriad of health issues and other debilitating diseases. The difference is that CBD doesn’t get you high, at most you may feel a calmness, which if you’re like me (who suffers from crippling anxiety at times) is a godsend.

While all health claims are based purely on personal experience, most people who try CBD find that it may help with calmness, anxiety, sleep and appetite right off the bat. CBD is the non-psychotropic cannabinoid found in hemp, the male non-flowering part of the plant, which has been found to have inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, as well as sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not ‘get you high,’ as they say, but it will relax you, soothe pain, help regulate sleep patterns, control certain cancers, stimulates bone growth, and stops the growth of bacteria, as well as it suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions, slows inflammation, reduces blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of artery obstructions, decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls, helps control epileptic seizures, reduces risk of nerve damage, and eases nausea.

I recently reached out to the wonderful folks at Steve’s Goods, which is a Colorado-based CBD company that specializes in a range of cannabinoid rich products like salves, bath bombs, vape shatter and wax, CBD oils, and more. Steve’s Goods is perhaps the most accomplished CBD producer who has branched out to create many versatile body and health care products, because not only do they have a unique and rare CBG oil, which is another healing cannabinoid, but they also combine terpene profiles to create full spectrum treatments that bring out a synergetic effect when used. For example, their CBG oil is 1000mg of full spectrum Blueberry OG, which essentially marries CBG, CBD, CBN, CBC and the terpenes from the female strain Blueberry OG, which is known for its clearheaded, anti-anxiety, and anti-inflammatory properties. I found the CBG to be a powerful tonic that aided me in improving my baseline mood, easing anxiety and tension and stress, while also helping me with my occasional insomnia. And the blueberry taste is quite agreeable, consider how earthy and green most CBD oils taste. The full spectrum CBG mix promotes a feeling of well-being, which is invaluable in this day and age.

I also tested Steve’s CBD Hemp Oil, which is similar to the CBG in that it is also full spectrum, but it is also more CBD heavy than CBG, and is combined with with raw CBD hemp oil, CBD isolate, local Colorado honey and non-psychoactive terpenes to bring a more synergetic effect to your treatment. I really like using their CBD in the morning, especially on days when I feel a sort of underlying tension inside me, because what often happens is my mood is down and I’m easily aggravated and frustrated even with menial tasks, but the CBD helps smooth things out per say by bringing along an easing sensation that balances me out and helps me to find my center.

Steve’s Goods also let me try their amazing CBD Girl Scout Cookies shatter and their CBD Distillate Wax, a product that may confuse some newbies to the world of cannabis. Shatter or wax is essentially a concentrate in the form of either a gritty, crystalized which is known as shatter, or a waxier form which is of course known as wax or distillate wax; both of which are typically used with a vaporizer. Vaping the shatter and wax is one of the quickest ways for treatment. Steve’s Goods makes shatters that contain the smell, taste and healing properties of THC strains while limiting the questionably illegal status of the product by removing the actual psychotropic cannabinoid. Their Girl Scout Cookies shatter has a beautiful and intoxicating scent of sweet, earthy, floral spiciness, which can be tasted when vaped. Beyond the effects I mentioned earlier, the Girl Scout Cookies shatter really brings home the enjoyable aspects of using this medicinal treatment, because of course the taste and smell are very agreeable, but also because of how it makes me feel: almost like being soothed inside, as if being cuddled by a giant pillow.

Lastly, Steve’s Goods sent me their Wowzer Relief pain cream, which I found to be perhaps the most helpful in my daily struggles. Topical applications of CBD have been shown to help with aches, pains, and bruises, while easing other unwanted internal sensations. I’ve had trouble with back and neck pain for sometime now, and it’s gotten so bad over the last six months that I was having trouble sleeping in the middle of the night. I would fall asleep just fine, then within a few hours, I would awaken with troubling back and neck pain and disease to where I would have trouble going back to sleep at all. But with the application of Steve’s CBD pain cream, I found relief in the middle of the nights. The Wowzer Relief cream is a topical salve made up of avocado oil, shea butter, beeswax, hemp seed oil, full spectrum hemp flower extract, vitamin e, cajeput, camphor, lavender, eucalyptus and other essential oils. While all of the natural ingredients are helpful as a topical, like that of camphor, lavender, and eucalyptus, it is the cannabis extracts that lend the most powerful healing effects. The camphor brings on a sort of tingly, icy hot sensation that numbs the pain, while the CBD and other cannabinoids go to work at actually healing the issue. Even if it’s only soothing the pain for a day, this salve is a lifesaver.

All in all I came away very impressed with Steve’s Goods products. They are very high quality, very powerful, and they smell and taste amazing. As mentioned prior, many CBD companies care little about the taste, letting the natural earthy tastes take over in their product, but Steve’s Goods has thought through every aspect of their products, and for that I give them an A-grade on my whimsical system of not-really-grading. I’m a big fan of their products, and would suggest them for my closest family. So if you found something that relates to what you go through in your own life and are looking for a safer remedy without the nasty side effects, why not give them a try?
