Are you like me, having to find things to do to keep from dying of boredom on that 10+ hour flight or that two hour delay, or while riding the bus? Typically, when I travel, I am backpacking, so everything I need to have with me, for months at a time, must fit in a rucksack, that also must be constantly carried upon my back; so, finding games, and books, and activities to do while I’m on my way toward my destination has become quite an interesting and trying problem to solve. I rarely have extra room for more than one book, or puzzle game, and must find other ways of keeping myself entertained. There’s only so much people watching one traveler can do in a single culture to keep it interesting, so before my last trip, I went searching for options…
I’m a huge fan of strategy-based games, puzzle games, and tower defense games, so to get started, I’d like to feature some of my favorites… Chess is probably my immediate goto, though it does require an internet connection or another warm body to play with you, typically, and while there are a slew of great chess apps, I like Chess With Friends. If you like Risk, another favorite is Lux Delux, which allows you to download a wide variety of maps and play different computer profiles that each have their own personality and differences in difficulty. Plants Vs. Zombies and The Creeps are great games for individuals who love tower defense games.
There are always times when I don’t feel like thinking of advanced strategy, so of course I planned ahead and had games ready for just the occasion. 8 Ball Pool is a fun game, where you can play hundreds of thousands of people from all around the world. Or here is a list of some other brain-relaxed games that can inspire great fun during dull situations… Check out Spinning Circle, Agar.io, Monument Valley, Tiny Wings, Doodle Jump and Rainbow Riches. Rainbow Riches is more of a slots and casino type approach, which segues into another realm of gaming that is very popular in this day and age. Casino games, like slots, poker, and blackjack are regularly available on every device, and are a fun way to pass the time. There are countless approaches, and many are free.
When I spent my first week in Las Vegas, I spent a lot of time trying out the various slot games, and finally, I found one slot game that was equally kind to me as it was fun to play. After leaving the casino, I found myself wanting to play something similar, because it was more than just pulling a lever, as it had style, and a story to follow. Sure, it hooked me in, but I had fun, and I was on a search to find another like it. My ultimate suggestion from this post is that you get out there and try out some games, test some that I named and find some other random ones, even if they’re as simple as slots, because you may find something that you really enjoy. And there’s nothing better than when caught in a boring situation, than to escape and play a game you love.
