Healing with Cannabis: featuring UK’s CannaWell

Once thought to be a harmful, mind-changing, life-ruining, disaster drug, cannabis is now being understood as perhaps the most therapeutic and healing* plants in the world. Cannabis is the latin name for both hemp and marijuana, and  is what produces a range of cannabinoids, or compounds, that are effective in a myriad of treatments, and is safe in large doses, unlike most prescription drugs; and even more so unlike prescription drugs, there’s no chemical dependency or fear of addiction, and there are little to no side effects. With this new understanding, new laws are opening up the possibilities for researchers, scientists and health professionals to not only study and gain a new understanding, while also allowing companies the opportunity to create new and exciting products that have never been available over the counter before now.

Before I highlight some personal favorite ways to support my wellbeing with cannabinoids, it’s important to understand the intricacies of these compounds. While there’s a whole lot more to learn for full understanding, the basics are as such: The flowers that come from the female cannabis plant is what produces THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is what ‘gets you high,’ as they say, and while it does have many medicinal qualities, it is still illegal in many areas around the world. The second most well-known cannabinoid is CBD, or cannabidiol, which comes from the seed-baring male plant.

CBD is the non-psychotropic cannabinoid found in hemp, the male non-flowering part of the plant, which has been found to have inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, as well as sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not ‘get you high,’ as they say, but it will relax you, soothe pain, help regulate sleep patterns, stimulates bone growth, and stops the growth of bacteria, as well as it suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions, slows inflammation, reduces blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of artery obstructions, decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls, can help control epileptic seizures, reduces risk of nerve damage, and eases nausea.

I recently teamed up with CannaWell in the UK, and they sent me some of their CBD supplements, along with a topical balm used for pain and muscle aches. While I can make no health claims for these products, I do recommend them based on my experience with them as being totally positive. CannaWell specializes in CBD and hemp products that are to maintain, support and optimize a patient’s wellbeing. Each one is a health promoting supplement which  is used to provide extra system support to our body's endocannabinoid system. Many of their CBD products come from Bluebird Botanicals in the states, and others are European made.

I took the following CannaWell products on a trial and found them to be helpful in maintaining my wellbeing, while easing my anxiety and helping me sleep more soundly…
–Hemp Balance Plus, which is a full-spectrum supplement; 500mg+ of CBDA/CBD per 10ml.
–Hemp Pure 6X, which is a stronger supplement at 1500mg+ per 30ml and is married with organic virgin hemp seed oil, which enhances the overall effect with additional omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.
–Hemp Blend 6X, which is similar to the Pure 6X but includes wildcrafted frankincense extract and black seed oil, which helps the taste and overall benefit of the supplement.
–Hemp Total 6X, which is a 50:50 mix of raw CBDA and heated CBD cannabinoids, and also includes steam distilled hemp extract for more of an entourage effect. This mix has at least 26 different aromatic terpenes, flavonoids, aldehydes, ketones, which makes it a much more powerful and versatile supplement.
–Body Balm, which is a light feeling lotion that packs quite a punch. It is best used as a relaxing massage balm, perfect for aching joints, stiff muscles, stretched tendons, bruises and other body discomforts.

After spending some time testing each, and using them each for at least a week separately, I found that for beginners, the lower dosage supplements are best as a segue into CBD and hemp extracts, but for those who suffer from heavier and more serious issues, I would definitely suggest finding which of the 6X oils work best for you. As I mentioned before, I found them to be beneficial in helping my anxiety, stress level, and insomnia most of all, while also providing a boost in mood balance and peace of mind. The body balm, however, is my absolute favorite, because it is so light feeling, silky and smooth, yet it leaves no trace, no film or unwanted residue, while also providing a deep relaxing, almost icy-hot sensation, which I found to be brilliant in helping me get back to sleep when my neck and back keep me awake in the night. With CBD, you can also support your body, wellbeing and health with other extract styles like with vaping, smokable waxes, as well as other topical treatments. All in all, I came away very impressed with CannaWell and Bluebird Botanicals, as their supplement products are of high quality and are very effective.
