Powering your digital world while you travel abroad

No matter if you’re a digital creative who works abroad on a laptop or tablet, or if you’re simply venturing out on a round-the-world trip yet you wish to stay connected, power tends to crop up as a pretty typical issue for most travelers (same goes for that elusive WiFi). This of course depends on where you’re going and what sort of electronics you work with. As the world of technology ever expands, more and more solutions are available to cure this problem.

Have you ever traveled to a third-world country, or lesser connected destination, where power options kept you stranded in one place? I have, and it’s no fun. There were times along my travels that I had to simply take a break from the digital world, simply because I couldn’t find power where I was. Try road tripping around all of Iceland without a powerpack. And, years ago, when I first went overseas, I winged the entire trip, and ended up leaving my laptop powered off until I was coming back on my flight home. It happens. But the good news is that now-a-days, there are options to cure these issues… Like the Nomad PowerPack.

Nomad is an exciting digital company that offers creative ways to the most trivial digital problems, specifically designed for the more mobile types. They have developed wallet chargers, wire hides, device protection cases, hubs and more. Today, I’d like to feature their PowerPack, which is a small battery capable of charging an iPhone up to 3.5X. How is something about half the size of an iPhone charge it 3+ times over? Well, it’s because Nomad has packed this little battery with 9,000mAh, which by comparison is amazing, considering what I’ve seen over the years with similar batteries being larger and only capable of holding 2,000mAh at best.

The structure of the PowerPack is perhaps its second best feature, because Nomad set out to create something that will last. It’s ultra rugged and compact, meeting military grade drop-resistance standards at 1.2M. It’s made of Dow Dupont polycarbonate frame, TPU rubber exterior, mortise and tenon joints, and the battery is a Panasonic lithium battery.

Head and shoulders above comparable batteries on the market, the Nomad PowerPack comes feature loaded; with integrated bluetooth tracking via Tile, fast charging capabilities, USB C + USB A ports, and an ambient-light sensing technology. Other issues with similar models tend to be very slow charging, but the PowerPack has a 3A high output capability. All in all, I came away impressed with Nomad’s craftsmanship and design of the PowerPack, and have began incorporating it into my travel gear for future trips as it will be replacing the 3 others I’ve been carrying abroad (which saves me a ton of unwanted weight, woo!).
