Review: Beyerdynamic’s Custom One Pro Plus Headphones

Headphones are one of those creature comforts for me. I don’t absolutely need multiple pairs, but like shoes, I find myself wanting to customize my style, fit, look and sound upon what mood I’m in, or what clothes I’m wearing, or it could depend entirely on whim, but either way, I have that choice, which makes me happy. Sometimes, a slim-lined headphone is in order, while other times, it’s all about the bass. Typically, I’m either abroad, backpacking, and require a smaller model, yet am desiring a bigger sound, or I’m at home with my choice of the lot.

At home, I’ll choose the big body, reference headphones that sit like cushions over my ears. Not only because I simply love a booming bass beat and smooth highs and mids, but because when I’m home listening through headphones, I want that atmospheric experience, where all I hear is the detail of the music, and nothing else. When I’m writing, I like to choose my most gaudy, yet best sounding pair and hideaway in a dark room with my laptop. I will always put on chillstep, or some sort of powerful and instrumental, yet relaxing music; typically something with a beat and atmospheric tones. Why? Because it allows me to focus in and work hard, by allowing all distractions to fade, while keeping my creative flow… well, flowing.

Beyerdynamic is one of the hottest brands on the market for great sound, especially for reference and studio class headphones. But more recently, they’ve released a unique style of headphone, the Custom One Pro Plus, that allows you to customize the graphic on the ear pads. They have all sorts of choices. For example, they have 16 unique designs readily available within the package, such as: a skull, an 8-ball, zebra print, an eye, an attractive triangle symbol, a boombox, and several other colorful, eye-catching designs. Not only are the headphones customizable, but they offer an interesting feature that allows the user to modify the sound pattern profile. So, if you want more bass, you’ve got it. All in all, the custom sound slider gives you four distinct positions of sound change, which is a great feature for people like me who absolutely love a wide range of music genres.

Additionally, Beyerdynamic’s Custom One Pro Plus headphones include a newly developed professional 16 Ohms Velocity Driver, which is extradorinaiy light in weight, yet powerful in its sound quality, power and clarity. Overall, I found the Custom One’s to be a solid pair of over-ear headphones. They feel great and the sound quality is good for the price point, and the overall build screams quality as most Beyerdynamic models tend to do. I also like how the headphone jack is detachable, as there’s nothing more annoying at times. All in all, I came away quite impressed with Beyerdynamic’s lower end line, and believe for the person who wants to show off a bit of attitude and persona that these are a great choice of headphone.
