There’s a beauty in the wild world, in the forests untouched, and the further one explores, the deeper the change within. For me, there’s nothing better than the peace and tranquility of being as far away from civilization as possible. To get there, however, it takes some experience, some gear, and some education, because there are so few regions of the world left unspoiled, it often requires a good trek deep into the wilderness to find a place that even the planes can not be heard.
If you’re like me, you love the great outdoors, and you love camping and wandering through the woods, and if you’re like me, you like to stay out longer than a few hours at a time. To do this, you must stay the night, and be prepared as best as possible to ensure survival. While a summer day in the woods doesn’t scream danger, depending where you are, what season and what luck you have, the wilderness can be a very dangerous place; especially if you don’t know what you’re doing out there. My suggestion, camp one night close to the road/your car, then go a bit further on your second and third trips, learn how to make a fire and always pack smart. Proper packing habits and gear lists can be the difference in survival, because you never know what might happen while you’re out there, and if you’ve traveled far enough out, then simply calling for help will likely be impossible. I have covered packing lists, gear suggestions and reviews, and other survival/camping related educational articles, but today I thought it would be nice to feature one of those products that make for smart packing…
Coast is a one of my favorite gear manufacturers out there, because their products are always made extremely well. In the past, I’ve worked with their HP550 flashlight, which is a big, bruising, beast of a LED flashlight. Now, I thought it important to feature one of their smaller, more versatile lights… The A25R is a wonderful little light with a range of capabilities. It’s small enough that it can be carried in a pant pocket or a on a belt, or if you’re a backpacker, simply thrown in a rucksack without worry of overburdening your pack.

In the past, I’ve worked with their HP550 flashlight, which is a big, bruising, beast of a LED flashlight. Now, I thought it important to feature one of their smaller, more versatile lights… The A25R is a wonderful little light with a range of capabilities. It’s small enough that it can be carried in a pant pocket or a on a belt, or if you’re a backpacker, simply thrown in a rucksack without worry of overburdening your pack.
It’s an easy to clean, stainless steel bodied flashlight that is rechargeable (which is an awesome feature! I mean how many D-batteries have drained my wallet by now?!), yet can also take traditional AAA-batteries (4X). The A25R includes two lithium Ion rechargeable battery packs (via micro USB or with the included AC & DC adapter) and an alkaline battery charger with batteries all ready to go. With two alternating batteries, it makes the A25R a great option for more than outdoors, such as automotive technicians and other professionals, because you can alternate the charge, or simply charge the battery all by itself while you’re away using the flashlight. The A25R flashlight is 6.25 inches in length and weighs only 10.4 oz, and it’s built like a miniature tank. The beam optics are crisp and bright, offering Pure Beam focusing, with a light output of 725 lumens on high and 80 lumens on low, with a beam distance of 682 feet on high and 219 feet on low, and the battery runtime is rated from 6:45h to 19 hours.

Sure, if you were hellbent on destroying it, you could probably wrought some damage, but with everyday work, even camping in the wilderness, you should notice little to no issues with it over an extended period of use. Coast rates this bad boy in a tiny package as impact resistant, weather resistant and rated at ANSI/F1 standards. Another reason I love Coast is for their lifetime warranty, which only sweetens the deal. All in all, after testing the A25R, I came away very impressed with the quality of build, the materials used, and the overall functionality (and brightness) of the flashlight. When I just have to get away and hike off into the woods, I’ll be relying on Coast to get me through the dark times. Will you?
