Review: Kyocera 5-piece Universal Block Set of Ceramic Knives

When I’m trekking into the wilderness and camping, I don’t let that stop me from cooking and eating well. I’m not much of a hunter, but I deeply enjoy taking the time to prepare a meal the right way, and of course enjoying the final product (my gut can attest to this). Sure, I won’t have my stove or oven or grill, but I rarely camp without an above fire grill wrack and/or a natural tinder stove, which both allow me the ability to eat well even if I’m not in the kitchen.

Along with my wrack and stove, I almost always travel with a fine set of knives, a stainless steel pot, and other cookware designed for outdoors cooking like expandable cups and bowls, and utensils. Cooking abroad also requires a quality cooler, as well as knowledge of how to handle and dispose of food while wild animals are near. But for me, the knowledge of proper food handling and care go hand in hand with ones experience of being in the natural world.

I’ve switched up my cutlery recently, opting for a more versatile set of knives by Kyocera. Their five piece ceramic knives with block set are a perhaps more bulky option than what I’ve used in the past, but these days I am backpacking less and traveling with more gear than ever before. The Kyocera ceramic knives are fine blades that specialize in slicing fruits, vegetables, and boneless meats, which is perfect for camping, as I will rarely be working with other types of foods.

The great characteristic about Kyocera’s ceramic knives is how easy they are to use and maintain, as they are designed to be comfortable and long lasting. The soft grip handles Kyocera outfits their ceramic knives with are ergonomically shaped, but beyond feeling good when you’re using them, they provide the chef with a highly controlled grip. Ceramic knives are easy to keep clean and are made of an extremely hard material that maintains sharpness longer than most conventional blades. They come ready to use, and razor sharp. The blade is durable and corrosive-free, so they will never rust.

I found the Z212 Advanced Ceramic 5-piece Knife set to be a great option for chefs of all kinds, and campers alike, because they are high-end and long lasting. But beyond that, the ceramic blades are lightweight and very easy to clean, which is perfect for campers and backpackers who still want to enjoy good food while spending time in Nature.
