For a long time, anything to do with the mention of cannabis, or marijuana, had been outlawed, looked down on and thought to be criminal by many. But with the advent of the internet, the truth has come out about cannabis, in that it is one of the most healing and therapeutic plants in the world. Cannabis is known for ‘getting you high,’ but the truth is that only one chemical or cannabinoid compound found in the plant can have that effect, while most of the other known compounds that are unique to cannabis are healing*.
So, let me explain. There’s THC, the psychotropic cannabinoid found in the female flowers of the plant, which will indeed make you ‘high,’ and then there’s CBD, the second most occurring compound, found in the highest concentration in male plants (hemp), which does not have a psychoactive effect. CBD has been legalized in all 50 states and has shown to have a tremendous effect for a wide range of ailments, diseases, and everyday issues like aches, pains, and more. CBD has been found to have inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, as well as sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not ‘get you high,’ as they say, but it will relax you, soothe pain, help regulate sleep patterns, control certain cancers, stimulates bone growth, and stops the growth of bacteria, as well as it suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions, slows inflammation, reduces blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of artery obstructions, decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls, helps control epileptic seizures, reduces risk of nerve damage, and eases nausea.

Recently, I had the pleasure to work with Made From Dirt’s Organic CBD salves, which come in four different kinds: Sunflower Salve, Sleep Balm, Stretch Mark Salve and my favorite, the Peppermint Pain Salve. Each salve is organic, and made to tackle a certain complication of issues. For example, as the name suggests, the Stretch Mark Salve, when used over a long period of time, will lessen scarring and will clear up damaged skin. I have stretch marks on my biceps from my gym days, and so I’ve been applying the salve in that way.
I tested each of the salves and am happy to say that they are indeed powerful. My favorite is the Peppermint Pain Salve, as I mentioned above, because it has a soothing sort of icy-hot sensation that aids me in the night. I often suffer from middle insomnia when I’m awakened with back and neck pain, and this salve helps to soothe my discomfort. But I also apply the Sleep Balm to my chest and jaw line to help me relax and fall back to sleep with its intoxicating aroma. The lavender, chamomile and cedarwood work synergetic with the CBD in the salve, which I found to be very powerful. The Sunflower Salve was especially unique, as it includes Tamanu oil, Peppermint oil, CBD and Pine Oil, which all help with pain, yet it leaves no residue on your skin. It’s great for fighting inflammation and pain! All in all, I’m a big fan of the therapeutic effects of CBD and how Made From Dirt has been able to create a specific salve for many of the issues that plague many of us each and everyday.
