Review: Madewell’s Transport Weekender bag

One of the most difficult luggage choices, at least for me, is finding the perfect single piece of luggage that can work as a hybrid carry all for short and intermediate trips. A daypack is too small for all my clothing, toiletries, and computer equipment, and a rucksack can be too limiting and can be more of a burden if I’m not backpacking. Laptop messenger bags aren’t large enough, backpacks aren’t either, and full-size hard case luggage can be simply too big and too overbearing for some shorter, and more active trips. So, what’s the answer?

Well, the truth is that this issue is completely subjective. But for me, personally and professionally, I have found that sizable duffel bags do the trick. I have a traditional rectangular leather duffel and an even larger weekender bag. Each style offers their own pros and cons, but for most trips that don’t fall into the category of long vacations or backpacking trips, I use a weekender duffel like the Transport Weekender bag by
Madewell.

Madewell specializes in clothing, as well as their bags, but one of their more intriguing bags is also one of their simplest. The Transport Weekender is a wide open bag with a couple of small pockets along the inner lining, so it can provide you with a lot of space, and I mean A LOT of space. I see it as the perfect weekend to seven day trip bag, and/or beach bag, because of how much can be carried within. I can easily fit a week’s worth of clothes, toiletries, my computer, and other small accessories inside.

The entire bag is encased in a layer of black leather, with a layer of thick cloth on the inside. The straps are a nice light brown leather, tanned and finished smooth. Two handle straps make the bag available for carry, and a long and adjustable strap meets on either end so you it can be a shoulder bag as well. The yellow/brass colored hardware feels strong and looks high end, completing the overall classy look and feel of the Transport Weekender.

I found Madewell’s Transport Weekender bag to be a solid luggage piece that can work on so many levels. And as a single carry bag, as I use it, I think it’s a quality option for many travel styles. It’s got the size, the shape, the open compartment, and an attractive look. My only criticism is that I wish there were more pockets on the inside. Perhaps the only improvement I can foresee is to line the entire inner walls of the bag with organizational options.

Great review. At https://mahileather.com/ we also sell weekend bags. They're also in leather, as it's really comfortable and sturdy, isn't it? Would you be interested in reviewing one of our bags?
