Review: The Precision Press Titanium Pen by Tuff Writer

For any writer, or travel writer especially, having a quality pen that can withstand the years of use and the elements can be as important as any item on any gear list. I write more on a computer these days, mainly when I’m working in the revision stage, but there’s an intimacy, a simplicity, and beauty in writing drafts by hand. How easily those initial ideas flow onto the page can have a major affect on how one continues through the thought process. I’ve had countless experiences of writing with pen on page where I am forced to stop to find a new pen. What this does is slow down the flow process, where at one point you’re mind was flowing with a deep vision in mind and a rush of creative ideas, only to come to a screeching halt because of a technical issue. It’s something worth avoiding as a professional writer, because there are times when the words come flowing out and times when the words come sluggishly, and it’s your job to make it as easy as possible on yourself.

Fear not, solid pens exist. I look for lifetime worthy models that are easy to refill/replace the cartridge, so I’m not wasting precious productivity time. I don’t know how many times I ran through batches of cheap plastic pens, but I vow no more! …As I’ve found the perfect solution. I recently identified what I knew to look for as the right pen: It had to look great, work smoothly, and simply make me a little happier inside. In life, it’s the simple things. But in today’s market, a pen by that description is either rare or quite expensive. At least, that’s what I thought, until I found Tuff Writer.

The fine and friendly folks over at Tuff Writer provided me with a sample pen, their high quality Precision Press Titanium Pen. This pen is eye-catching, not only for it’s polished surface and its stunning array of colors, but because it’s built extremely tough and designed very well. Not only is the titanium finished with a hydrophobic polymer nano-resin to protect the fine, slick surface from scratches, it’s used to seal and protect the attractive and colorful finish. Since the pen was machined from solid titanium bar stock, it’s thicker and stronger than most titanium pens, yet is 45% lighter than steel, and 60% heavier than aluminum, and is claimed to be three times stronger than both materials. With medical grade titanium, the Precision Press pen remains lightweight and easy to control, yet it’s stronger than most pens, and is corrosion resistent, which makes it perfect for travel writers like myself.

Inside, the Precision Press pen is fitted with a standard cartridge that allows for a range of makes and models, depending on the user’s preference. Changing the cartridge is easy; with a quick twist of the tip, you can slide out the old and slide in the new, and you’re back to writing, which is an important, albeit basic feature. All in all, I came away very impressed with the quality and style of Tuff Writer’s Precision Press Titanium pen. Typically, I like to offer at least one criticism, but Tuff Writer nailed this product. Not only is the Precision Press pen high end, and built to last through decades of hard use, it’s fashionable, modern and sleek looking.
