Review: Woodies full-frame Zebra wood sunglasses

Woodies is an affordable brand of sunglasses with a lot of pizzazz and personality. You only have to look at their packaging to understand. Their sunglasses come in a fabric hardshell case with a thick rubber bracelet, each with their logo presented on it in different ways. The case proper contains the sunglasses and keeps them safe from most harm; as I found the only way to hurt them is to put a lot of pressure on the shell to cause it to crush. So, baring anything major, the case is more than sufficient for the sunglasses inside.

Inside the hardshell case, Woodies has included a slew of humorous and interesting items. First, the sunglasses come in a soft fabric bag that can be drawn closed and carried just like that. Several colorful Woodies logo stickers were included, even one with the face of ‘Woodies Captain’ cheesing hard in front of the Snapchat logo. But what really got me was how they included a guitar pick; almost like they knew I needed one.

Below that, inside the seemingly endless depths of the case was a small business card, like a Monopoly game card; it read: ‘Community Chest. Go to the beach. Go directly to the beach. Do not live through Instagram. Do not collect $200.’ I like how they incorporated that game piece, because it adds some light cheer, but also it promotes the idea that we should be living our lives and not living through our cell phone’s camera, which is something I have felt very strongly about for quite some time. That’s why you don’t always see me updating Instagram like clockwork. And lastly, at the bottom of the case is a really soft fabric cloth, meant for cleaning the lenses of the sunglasses, with a couple beautiful girls featured on it; which is a win, if you ask me.

The sunglasses themselves are lightweight with thick wood frames. The frames were carved and finished with a nice sheen that shows off the lovely wood grain. The lenses aren’t the highest quality I’ve seen designed to be with wooden sunglasses, but they are sufficient and work nicely with the Zebra wood style and grain. As an avid backpacker, and light traveler at that, I like how lightweight these frames are and how strong the semi-hardshell case is, because anything too heavy or bulky can become a burden while giving out of a rucksack. All in all, I found Woodies sunglasses to be a nice, affordable option for anyone looking for a quality pair of wooden sunglasses.
