Review: Xyrena’s Blue Dream & Cloud No. 9 Fragrances

Women’s perfume and men’s cologne can be luxurious and intoxicating, yet the deeper truth is that most mainstream fragrances are harmful, filled with chemicals and toxins, or they’re sourced in a not-so-friendly way from the environment, many of which harm other living things. But there’s hope for those who still want to smell beautiful and engaging while also being environmentally conscious. It’s an important perspective to take, because the harm on others and yourself isn’t worth a pleasant scent that steals the senses, among other things.

Xyrena is an environmentally conscious company from the US that specializes in luxury vegan and cruelty free fragrances and cosmetics. Their scents are extract de parfum, which means they are the strongest type of perfume, where a little goes a long way, as each scent consists of the highest concentration of fragrance in an alcohol carrier, with no water added. Most companies who offer this high quality concentration will charge $200+ for 1oz, but Xyrena produces all of their perfumes at 1.7oz, which range in cost between $42 to $154. And even though they’re cheaper than most high end, full fragrance perfume and colognes, their products are wicked strong, vibrant and intoxicating.

I reached out to Xyrena to feature their cruelty free fragrances, and they sent me their Blue Dream and Could No.9 products to try out and to feature for you today. Upon immediate inspection, I found that I very much liked that Xyrena has going on. Their packaging is simple, yet effective, in that they package their perfume bottles in thick plastic cases, much like the old school VHS video tape cases, which has been molded to snugly fit and secure the precious bottle inside. The branding for the Blue Dream is classy, with a man in a suit holding a joint, and since their Blue Dream is modeled off of the infamous cannabis strain by the same name, I found it to be fitting, and aesthetically attractive. And for the Cloud No. 9 fragrance, Xyrena went with a slumbering woman holding lavender, with a quote that describes the scent as what ‘dreams are made of.’

The Blue Dream is a unisex extract de perfum, that’s part of their Reefer Madness collection, which also includes OG Kush and Space Cake. Blue Dream is perhaps the most popular marijuana strain, because of its strong euphoria, blueberry-haze taste, and for its positive effects. While I of course didn’t have any of the original strain to compare by, I did find that the scent of the fragrance was indeed blueberry heavy, with hints of vanilla, floral notes, with a bit of a skunky tanginess that evolves into a peppery sweetness. The smell of cannabis is already distinctive and strong, so making a perfume with that exact scent would likely cause more problems for the wearer than simply smoking once in public, which is why I think their Blue Dream is a successful adaptation, because it doesn’t carry that cannabis scent, but rather evolves on the fruit, natural tones that come out subtly when smelling the herb itself. All in all, the Blue Dream is a really nice, attractive scent that I can foresee being very likened by women who smell it mixing with the natural scent of the man who wear it.

The Cloud No. 9 is Xyrena’s newest and highest end fragrance, and perhaps the most unique because where most people are used to applying a perfume in the mornings, this scent was made to be used in the evening, specifically made for the bedroom. The scent is distinct and multi-layered, with noticeable lavender, orange, and vanilla, with hints of chamomile and seductive smoke. Created to be much more than a simple fragrance, the Cloud No. 9 is meant to be a personal sleep aid that promotes calming and an anti-anxiety effect that bridges perfume with aromatherapy. The scent is sexy, flirty and inviting, and if I were to pick up this scent on a well-dressed woman, I’m positive that she’d have caught my interest. And since, considering how powerful our memories are when inspired by a familiar scent, I found that the Cloud No. 9 is that unique perfume that can be leave traces in the memory of those who pick up your scent. So, why not leave your scent?
