August Home specializes in futuristic home security options that can be manned from your mobile device. Beyond their Doorbell Cam Pro, they also have a product that allows you to control access to who can open your doors while you’re away. Nifty, right? They were kind enough to send one over for me to test and review. So, let me break it down for you…

How it works is you attach the smart lock to your existing deadbolt on the inside of your door, so you can still use your original physical keys. You then configure it with the Connect Wi-Fi Bridge and viola, you’re living in the freaking future! August’s system recognizes when its you and will automatically unlock when you arrive home, as well as lock the doors when you leave. You can control the Smart Lock system with your voice using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Beyond that, you can also add a Smart Keypad, which is pretty wild!
Built into the August Smart Lock system is a feature called DoorSense, which is a sensor that tells your phone how secure you are, like if your front door is securely closed and locked. For added security, since digital technology often can be abused by the right person with the right knowledge, August included a two-factor authentication, two-way encryption and a lost phone feature. Because you can never be too careful. All in all, I found this technology to be very cool, pretty easy overall to install, and very useful for peace of mind while I travel abroad.
