Striving for Beard Glory: featuring Mountaineer Brand

Every since I was young I’ve had an affinity for righteous beards, because of how striking and powerful and manly a well groomed, lengthy beard looks, but also because I’ve always loved the idea of living like a mountain man in the woods. And as I’ve grown up, I’ve gained the passion and ability to become a writer, and so my appreciation for the wild writer’s lifestyle has been something that has evolved into a sort of fantasy, or dream that I will one day fulfill. I’ve often pictured myself living off the land, deep in the wilderness, in a faraway cabin, where I live by the heat of firewood through the winter and simple explore the deepest parts of myself and my mind, and only have my typewriter for company. If that lifestyle ever happens for me, I know my beard game will be strong.

Up until recently, I’ve failed at growing out a beard worthy of being proud of, but since my wedding is coming up, I’ve decided to dedicate my time and efforts to growing and maintaining a decent start that will be acceptable for my wedding photos. At first, I struggled with my beard growing in full enough, and now I have one small patch high on my right cheek that has held out longer than all other aspects of my beard, and so I’ve reached out to Mountaineer Brand for help. Mountaineer Brand beard care products range from beard oils, balms, styling tools, dopp kits, and other botanical products, and so they sent me their Build Your Own Dopp Kit, which marries their products with a beautiful leather dopp bag by the fine leather makers known as Kodiak Leather – which looks and smells amazing!

Inside the kit comes a beard oil, beard balm, beard wash, and brush, which provides any beard dreamer, like myself, with what it takes to have success growing a glorious beard. When you’re young, full growth may still be years away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t cultivate the proper conditions to inspire new growth; which is where beard care products come into play. All of Mountaineer Brand’s beard products are 100% natural, which is important because nothing ruins beard health like chemicals and toxins. From there, it’s all about the process…

For proper beard health and for optimum growth, it’s best to wash your beard every other day, because doing it too often will strip the hairs of its natural oils that are important for overall health of the hair follicles. As with all beard products, the wash, oil and balm, you will want to apply each by massaging them into your beard and face, because it stimulates growth and will help to inspire new, fuller growth. Once out of the shower, or once clean, you will want to towel dry gently before applying the beard oil. Beard oil is a mixture of natural oils and essential oils (for example, they sent me their WV Coal scent, which consists of Grapeseed oil, Almond oil, Castor oil, Clary Sage oil, Peppermint oil, and Patchouli oil) that come together to help soothe itch, promote new growth, while conditioning and maintaining healthier hair. No one likes the itchy, dry beard stage, and so the oil and balm can help with that.

Mountaineer Brand’s Magic Beard Balm is a similar makeup like that of the beard oils, but it includes natural Shea and Cocoa Seed butter and beeswax, along with a variety of oils, which is best used after the oil and throughout the day for when additional styling is requires, as well as conditioning. The balm is of a thicker consistency and will help to maintain those more unruly hairs, while aiding against itch, dryness, dandruff, while conditioning your beard. Another important step in overall beard health is that of consistent beard stimulation via a beard comb or brush. I prefer to untangle my beard with a comb, then after applying the oil, I like to finish off my beard with a bristle brush like the one included in this kit.

Overall, I came away very impressed with Mountaineer Brand’s beard products, because not only are they natural, but they work great, and smell even better. The WV Coal oil is an attractive earthy scent which mixes sage, peppermint and patchouli. The WV Citrus & Spice balm hits you in the face with one of the most intoxicating scents, which is made up of clove, orange and grapefruit; it’s almost as if I’m receiving aromatherapy by using their beard balm, because it smells so good throughout the day, uplifting my mood every time I smell it. The beard wash is of their Pine Tar scent which I found to be very fragrant in the shower. All in all, I’ve noticed that my beard has responded with fuller, healthier growth, thicker where it counts, while smelling amazing and looking healthier and shinier overall.
