Modern aromatherapy consists of employing a diffuser, which essentially distributes a few drops of your oil of choice through the air by way of sending water vapor into the air. By infusing the air with the essential oils, you are releasing the properties of that substance into the air so that the properties can be inhaled and felt. Essential oils can also be applied to the skin, typically with a carrier oil, and can be used in a variety of botanicals, and other applications. Aromatherapy, however, is all about the aromatic effect.
