Taking a Look at Aromatherapy: featuring Anjou

Aromatherapy is an ancient healing practice of using essential oils, which are derived from plants, herbs, flowers, roots and trees. Modern aromatherapy consists of employing a diffuser, which essentially distributes a few drops of your oil of choice through the air by way of sending water vapor into the air. By infusing the air with the essential oils, you are releasing the properties of that substance into the air so that the properties can be inhaled and felt. Essential oils can also be applied to the skin, typically with a carrier oil, and can be used in a variety of botanicals, and other applications. Aromatherapy, however, is all about the aromatic effect.

Aromatherapy is an alternative medicinal approach that when inhaled can provide a myriad of cures to all sorts of ailments, big and small. From antibacterial to anti-inflammatory, to use as an analgesic, aromatherapy can help to manage pain, reduce stress, soothe aches and sore joints, while improving sleep quality, easing the symptoms of depression, and can even battle the effects of cancer. It sounds amazing, right? Filling a room full of beautiful scents that can help me feel better… Well, I was a bit skeptical at first, as I tend to be with any and all new things in my life, as I rely on personal experience above all else. But it is indeed a real thing, and it’s something I have come to really enjoy as part of my everyday routine.

I teamed up with Anjou to try out their 300ml aromatherapy diffuser with their top 6 essential oils gift set. Their essential oil diffuser is ultrasonic, which means it’s super quiet, assisting with the overall relaxing experience. Simply fill the diffuser with clean, filtered water, and then place 3-6 drops of your desired oil and you’re ready to go. The diffuser has a variety of light settings that boost mood and ambient environment, while the aromatic air moistens dry and chapped skin, but that’s not all; that intoxicating scent is also healing you based on the properties of the essential oil you chose. It’s pretty cool. The design is stylish, and it works great, providing for up to eight hours of use before refill is necessary, and there are four timing modes included: 2h, 4h, 6h and continuous mist.

Anjou’s essential oil gift kit includes six 10ml bottles of 100% certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils. In the kit comes lavender (perhaps the most intoxicating of them all), lemongrass (a vibrant and delectable scent), peppermint (spicy, strong but very healing), eucalyptus (great for colds), tea tree (antibacterial, healing and great for skin care), and sweet orange (mood booster, for energy, among many more uses). While these oils can be used in oil burners, as massage oil, shower gel, shampoo, in bath water, and a variety of other applications, diffusing them is perhaps my favorite way, because it uplifts my mood while healing me of what I’m feeling that day. To apply to the skin, it’s best to use a carrier oil as a base before the highly concentrated essential oils touch the skin; recommended carrier oils are jojoba, argan, coconut, sweet almond, and avocado. What’s so neat about this essential oil kit is that Anjou has gathered scents from all around the world in one package.
