Traveling in Style: Taking a look at Dr. Martens Suede Satchel

Traveling the world takes a lot of planning, and money, and often leaves one choosing what’s comfortable and functional over what looks best. Traveling in style often means you’re adding weight to your pack, by carrying imperfect luggage, or by adding a lot of extra items that aren’t truly necessary. When I travel, my aim is to have everything I know I will absolutely need, and little else, so rarely do I take an extra pair of shoes or clothing simply because it looks good. More often than not, I must cut corners and focus on what will lighten my load. But every once in a while, I discover a piece of luggage that can fulfill both my needs and wants.

Particularly, I love that airplanes allow for a carry on and a personal item. My personal item is always my satchel or briefcase, and since I have been stolen from before when traveling, I take precautions like keeping all of my most valuable and important items with me at all times. My laptop and my camera with my favorite lens always comes with me, along with other items like my tablet, money, passport and IDs. A quality bag can achieve several needs, while also being fashionable, and that’s probably my favorite part of modern luggage.

Today, I thought it would be fun to feature a different style of travel bag, rather than the traditional rucksack or wheeled carry-on: the E.H. Suede Satchel. Dr. Martens is known for their edgy footwear and their heavy duty boots, but they also specialize in making this fine messenger style bag. The E.H. Suede Satchel is a classy and fashionable bag, in finished dark brown suede, which means it will go with just about any outfit and look dynamite. Not only is it eye catching, and ridiculously soft, it’s also quite a functional bag, which means it can carry a lot, and not add a ton of extra weight or burden to the user.

The suede covers the entire outer portion of the bag, while a quality canvas lines the insides. This satchel comes with a business card insert under the flap, and inside there are two pockets, one large enough to hold a sizable laptop, with notebooks and even a couple of outfits if need be, while the smaller pocket nearest the flap is perfect for small gadgets and your passport and IDs. While I wish there were a few more pockets inside the largest pocket, this bag is versatile enough for compression packing, or simple enough to carry just the basic necessities. To close the bag, Dr. Martens incorporated two traditional buckle latches, which is a feature absent from most modern bags but looks great here.

I found the E.H. Suede Satchel to be high quality made, with its fine suede leather feeling and looking quite high end. It gives that fashionable look while providing a functional rich and safe space for your most precious items. The bag’s natural cushion makes it a strong option for transporting laptops, tablets, cameras and other fragile items. I love the thin, streamlined, and refined aesthetics of the satchel, and I love the addition of a soft suede finish, because it is that final, beautiful touch that sets this bag apart from other similar styles.
